self esteem

Self esteem

How many times has it happened that someone has been able to take away from you the essence of  who you are?You struggle against indignities, pain and humiliation because of different reasons. And somewhere you cease to be yourself. This denial of who you are haunts you.It kills you bit by bit.It may be a comment by a superior,a parent,a spouse ,a friend. As long as it is constructive criticism you must take it in your stride. It is a part of personal evolution. However when you are part of a tirade which is meant to exercise power over you,you must draw a line.Protecting your self esteem is not just about yourself ,it finally determines how you will be in other relationships. If you are abused you will not be able to give your 100 percent in your relationships.Protest when someone makes a disparaging comment on colour ,caste, gender.Protest when you are judged on the basis of your physical appearance.Protest when you are told to be silent on matters of justice and ethics.Protest not only on your own behalf but on behalf of those who are marginalised.Do it politely and with utmost dignity. However when that is not heard ,show your outrage and anger in your own way as long as you are non-violent.Language and emotions are your own,use it freely,do not get boxed into compartments .Make yourself heard.Your soul will dance with joy ,you will find yourself and be complete.
